Calendar, reminders and Health
Let chats check your calendar and reminders, add to them, and read Health data, only when you allow it.
On iPhone and iPad, chats can use some of what’s on the device itself: “Am I free on Thursday afternoon?”, “Remind me to call the dentist at 4”, “How did I sleep this week?”.
What’s there
| Ability | What the chat can do |
|---|---|
| Read calendar | See events in a date range. |
| Add calendar events | Make a new event. |
| Read reminders | See your reminders. |
| Add reminders | Make a new reminder. |
| Read Health data | Steps, distance, active energy, exercise, sleep and heart rate. |
Allow, Ask or Deny
Each ability is set in Settings › Phone data:
- Deny, the default. The model isn’t even told the ability exists.
- Ask. When a chat wants it, your phone asks: Allow Once, Always Allow or Deny. No answer within two minutes counts as Deny.
- Allow. The chat uses it without asking.
iOS also asks its own permission the first time, as it does for any app.
Where the data goes
Your phone looks up the answer and sends only that back, for example the three events on Thursday, not your whole calendar. The answer becomes part of the chat, so the chat’s model sees it. If that model runs on a server you added yourself, outside your Mac, the answer goes there too.
Scheduled tasks never use these abilities, since nobody would be there to approve them.
